Yes, wired connection is supported only in 2.6.33 .
You can install it from here, if you like: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.33/

I have https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/ ppa on my sources.list to have daily updates. I noticed that i have very low sound from headphones.
From speakers nothing , but i am optimistic....

I didn't try Karmic, so i don't know about the 3d.

In Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 3D works by default.
You can upgrade now, or wait 1 month for the official release of Lucid.
